Game 10: Green Tree 6 - 7 Bar Tutsters

Captain Isn't There So the Team Falls to Shite

Bar Tutsters (Home)

Game Week 10 - Wednesday, 09th November, 2016

Don't know what to tell you mate. Absolute travesty. You leave them for one night and they go and do this. No wonder my back was killing from from carrying this team so much!

On a side note, the team showed quality character by pulling back the last 4 games. Great stuff. (We would have won it if I was playing though).

Word did reach back to the captain that there was talk of Chappell and Gordon arguing in the back room about who was going to have the most singles losses this season. They are both making a hearty broth in a few months time and are eager to take home that wooden spoon!

Game 09: Sports Bar 9 - 4 Green Tree

Must Have Been A Hangover From Nothing Last Week

Sports Bar (Away)

Game Week 09 - Wednesday, 02nd November, 2016

Chappell got well angry, Crowther got angry but not as much as Chappell, Hardy lost to someone who we all thought had died in the corner earlier in the night and Josh was in absolute Beat mode. Standard night of pool really.

Heads were down if we are being honest with ourselves, and I'm sure he wont mind me saying that we had a massive silver lining in an unlikely hero in Josh who pulled it out of the bag and gave us an at least respectable loss.

I was starting to get a bit of a bad back and was a bit ill and knackered so lost all concentration and let myself and the team down when I should have tried to rally us together a bit more. Chappell was visibly turning green out of anger, Crowther said just before his game that he has lost 8 times in a row here just to give himself that much needed confidence boost, meanwhile hard was having weird Viet-Nam-esque flashbacks about a one-legged lass still managing to kick his arse, luckily a 104-year old bloke with virtually no mobility managed to kick his arse too!

We weren't at our strongest, both in mentality and in numbers with Patty missing and I think it really cost us. Towards the end of the night at least, spirits lifted and we agreed that we won't all quit just yet.

Game 08: Green Tree 0 - 0 Masons

The Day A Game Didn't Take Place

Masons (Home)

Game Week 08 - Wednesday, 26th October, 2016

You know, the strangest thing happened, the Green Tree boys were doing what they do best and that is play pool to the highest possible standard during their practice before their big game against The Masons (who earlier in the day posted about their fear of the upcoming fixture of Social Media... which has since been deleted so there is no proof). Then nothing at all happened and it was Thursday morning again. Weird.

Game 07: Snooker Club 9 - 4 Green Tree

Lost the Battle...And the War... But Marcus was the Biggest Casualty!

Snooker Club (Away)

Game Week 07 - Wednesday, 19th October, 2016

Now many would think a 9-4 defeat in what can be considered a "derby game" somewhat of a let down... but Marcus got 7-balled and humiliated by Crowther.

Sitting at the foot of the table, you would be compelled to think that our heads would have dropped after another defeat... but Marcus got 7-balled and humiliated by Crowther.

With the opposition still collectively congratulating themselves on a good win, there was one humble, broken figure, sitting in the corner, wishing he stayed at home playing on his broken X-Box 1, collecting thatch and twigs and stones, killing dinosaurs. That person was Marcus. This is because he got 7-balled and humiliated by Crowther.

Game 06: Green Tree 4 - 9 Dean & Chapter

The Dean Gives Us A Schooling

Dean & Chapter (Home)

Game Week 06 - Wednesday, 12th October, 2016

A night to forget perhaps as we hit our first real stumbling block. There have been losses before and there will no doubt be more to come but going into this game with an initial target of 7, there was belief we could come out of this one with something. Alas, it wasn't to be.

The night didn't get off to the best of starts with the initial 30-45 minutes of practiced being spent readjusting the new table. Time that maybe should have been spent actually practicing, certainly in the case of our illustrious captain.

The match itself started fairly evenly, Gordon losing the first but Crowther able to peg a '1' back. Sadly that was the only highlight of the first half as we seemed to settle in for a long night. Yours truly being somewhat effected by becoming someones first win of the season (I feel I handled it well though!). Patty was able to claw another one back but Captain Fantastic here made yet another blunder by submitting the completed team sheet before Patty even finished, popping in the doubles to rot alongside me (even as spectacular as my double was!). Hardy rounded off the singles wins going into the 'special' matches, sadly at that point, we had already lost the night.

A massive positive is Craig 'Gary/Dave' Chappell getting the team off the mark with a captains win. Rumours also flying around that team shirts are being opranised along with a "win incentive" or a pound in the pot for every "W" we can rack up.

Still optimistic about the season ahead perhaps the lack of practice on the night summed up the week in general. A little more table time to polish off the rust and we can still certainly cause an upset or two. Especially at The Manor, we certainly don't want to end up with egg on our faces...

Game 05: Bay Horse A 5 - 8 Green Tree

First Win of the Season Gets the Ball Rolling

Bay Horse A (Away)

Game Week 05 - Wednesday, 5th October, 2016

We managed to put in a great performance during the singles matches to earn the win before the doubles even took place. All the lads chipped in and it resulted in a deserved victory away to the Bay Horse A team. The victory has resulted in us being lifted from the bottom of the table and we can now look to build from here.
The 2 singles matches we lost could easily have gone the other way with the black being left over the pocket on both occasions, a little bit of lady luck and it could have been a clean sweep.

Last nights match saw the debut of Chappell who got off to a flyer, winning his first singles. It also saw Josh off the mark which should create some confidence going forward.

Overall, to come away from the match thinking we were unfortunate to leave with an 8-5 victory speaks volumes. Next week we get to play at a refurbished Green Tree and how fitting it is that we go in with a big refresh ourselves.

Shaky Start - Tough Opening

An initial target of 10 points from the first 4 games was set so the team are pleased to have surpassed that going into the fourth game again the Miners A. A 6-4 away result to Royal George in Shildon raised a few eyebrows and a nightmare run of Volti (h), Top Hat (a) and Miners (played at the Snooker Club) saw defeats of 10-3, 11-2 and 12-1 respectively.

Still, a new team that many have tipped to be awarded the illustrious "wooden spoon" have saved themselves embarrassment and now a rough opening is out the way, we look to march on all under the agreement that "the season starts now!".

With a big away game against the Bay Horse A team, a win would see the Green Tree lift from the bottom, leapfrogging their opponents on their way to the dream of mid-table mediocrity come the end of the season.
